DTH Adapter

DTH hammers. The DTH hammer is the core power unit of the DTH drilling system. It delivers high-frequency impact energy directly to the drill bit, providing fast penetration and stable performance in medium to hard rock formations.

DTH bits. DTH bits cut and crush the rock at the bottom of the hole. They are available in different head designs, face shapes, and button configurations to suit various ground conditions and drilling requirements.

DTH rods (DTH drill pipes). DTH rods connect the hammer to the drilling rig, transmitting rotation and air flow to the hammer while maintaining strong structural integrity. They come in multiple diameters, lengths, and thread types to meet different hole depths.

Adapters. Adapters (such as box-pin, pin-pin, and box-box adapters) are used to connect DTH rods, hammers, and other drilling components when different thread types or sizes need to be matched. They ensure a seamless and reliable connection during drilling.

The Gdrills Advantage: Why Our DTH Tools Last Longer?

Valveless High-Efficiency Design

Our DTH hammers feature a valveless air distribution system, reducing internal friction and allowing for a higher impact frequency, which translates to faster ROP (Rate of Penetration).

Military-Grade Alloy Steel

We use specialized 20CrNi2Mo steel for hammer cylinders and bits, providing the perfect balance between surface hardness and core toughness to prevent "cracking" under high-load percussive force.

Optimized Flushing Airflow

The bit face design features strategically placed flushing holes to ensure rapid removal of cuttings, preventing "re-grinding" and extending the service life of the tungsten carbide buttons.

Precision Mirror Finishing

Internal components are polished to a mirror finish to minimize wear on seals and internal pistons, significantly extending the MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures).

High vs. Low Pressure

In DTH drilling, matching the hammer to your air compressor's output is critical for maximizing ROP (Rate of Penetration).

High-Air Pressure Hammers (1.0 - 2.5 Mpa): Ideal for deep-hole mining and water well projects where speed is paramount. Compatible with DHD, QL, and Mission shanks.

Low-Air Pressure Hammers (0.5 - 0.7 Mpa): Best for small-scale quarrying and soft rock formations with lower energy consumption.

Reverse Circulation (RC) Hammers: Specifically designed for exploration sampling, ensuring zero contamination of the cuttings.

Advanced Manufacturing

Every Gdrills DTH Hammer is built for Heavy-Duty performance. We utilize 20CrNi2Mo alloy steel, treated with a multi-stage vacuum carburization process. This ensures the internal piston maintains a high surface hardness while the core remains ductile to absorb high-frequency impacts without cracking.

Maintenance Guide

Proper Lubrication

Always use high-quality rock drill oil to prevent internal scoring.

Thread Protection

Clean and grease all threads before coupling to prevent galling.

Storage

If stored for over 2 weeks, internal components should be oiled and the hammer stored horizontally in a dry area.

FAQ

Q: How can I prevent my DTH bit from premature wear?

A: Ensure proper "WOB" (Weight on Bit) and rotation speed. Excessive rotation in abrasive rock will cause "gauge wear." Regularly check your air pressure to ensure the cuttings are being flushed out effectively.

Q: What is the main difference between DTH and Top Hammer drilling?

A: DTH drilling places the impact mechanism (the hammer) directly behind the bit at the bottom of the hole, making it much more efficient for deep-hole drilling (over 20 meters) as energy isn't lost through the drill rods. Top Hammer is generally faster for shallow holes in softer rock.

Q: How do I choose the correct shank for my DTH Hammer?

A: The shank type (e.g., DHD, QL, Mission, SD) must match your Hammer’s internal drive chuck. We offer a full range of shanks that are 100% interchangeable with international standards.

Q: What is down-the-hole drilling?

A: In down-the-hole drilling a drill rod is fitted with a hammer at its lower end. The hammer, which is mounted on the drill bit, is activated through the addition of compressed air and driven into the ground – simultaneously rotating and impacting.

Q: What is the DTH method of piling?

A: Down the Hole Hammer (DTH Hammer) drills hard ground of bedrocks and layers of boulder stones swiftly and securely. This method is a way to excavate hard grounds with boulders and bedrocks efficiently by repetitive piston shooting using compressed air created in the cylinder.

Q: What is the difference between rotary and DTH?

A: Rotary is using a high pulldown weight on the rotary bit to crush the rock. TH is typically for small diameter hole drilling, DTH is for medium range hole sizes, and rotary can drill medium to large diameter blastholes. For the medium range hole sizes, there is an overlap between rotary and DTH application.

Q: What are the advantages of DTH drilling?

A: Deep Drilling Capability: DTH drilling is particularly effective in deep-hole applications, allowing for precise and reliable drilling at significant depths. 2. Low Deviation: The straightness and accuracy of DTH drilling ensure minimal deviation, making it suitable for projects where precision is critical.

Q: What is the DTH method of drilling?

A: Down-the-hole drilling (DTH) essentially involves a drilling hammer at the bottom of a drill string. It relies on three elements for drilling holes: bit loading (weight), rotation and air. These active elements combine to be efficient at crushing rock.
