General Introduction

Core drill pipe, or wireline core rod, is a specialized drill rod used in wireline core drilling, a technique primary employed in mineral exploration and geo-technical drilling to extract undisturbed core samples from deep underground.

Maintenance

The process begins by connecting the wireline drill rods to the drill rig, forming a drill string that advances into the ground. Inside the drill string, a core barrel assembly collects the core sample as drilling progresses.

Once the core sample is ready for retrieval, a wireline hoist system lowers an overshot tool down the rods to latch onto the inner tube containing the core. The overshot then pulls the core sample up through the hollow drill rods, eliminating the need to extract the entire drill string. This process saves time, reduces operational costs, and improves efficiency, especially for deep drilling projects.
