General Introduction
In diamond core drilling, a core barrel drilling is a crucial component of the drilling system used to extract cylindrical rock samples (core) from the earth. It is part of the wireline coring system and is designed to hold and protect the rock core as it is drilled.
A core barrel consists of an outer tube, which rotates and cuts into the rock, and an inner tube, which holds the core sample securely. At the bottom, a diamond-impregnated core bit cuts through the rock, while a core lifter and core lifter case help retain the core when the inner tube is pulled to the surface. In wireline drilling, the head assembly connects to a wireline system, allowing for efficient retrieval of core samples without removing the entire drill string.
Core barrels are available in various sizes, such as NQ, HQ, PQ, and BQ, depending on the required core diameter.
