The Atlas Copco / Epiroc COP 1036, COP 1038, and COP 1238 hydraulic drifters represent the backbone of global mid-sized underground tunneling and production blasting. While these three drifter families often share identical spline arrangements (such as 8-spline structures) and thread connections (T38 or T45), they are not universally interchangeable. Each generation feature highly distinct internal dampening, flushing sleeve setups, and piston strike-face alignments. Select the COP 1036 Shank if you are operating an older, non-dampened drifter setup where the piston head measures under 40mm. The striking face on the 1036 is narrow and tailored for pure high-frequency, lower-energy velocity impacts.
Select the COP 1038 Shank if your machine utilizes standard original hydraulic dampening pistons. The striking face diameter is optimized 42mm to match the energy wave of the 1038 series piston without offset energy loss.
Select the COP 1238 Shank if your rig features the modern, high-output heavy-duty internal piston. The striking impact face is widened to 45mm, designed specifically to absorb the crushing recoil generated by high-power $15\text{ kW}$ to $18\text{ kW}$ hydraulic packages.

Open your drifter's front chuck assembly and measure the total length from the front thrust ring to the rear seal pack locator.
The COP 1036 features a very short flushing sleeve footprint. The entire shank body is compact, limiting water travel to a localized single-seal zone.
The COP 1038 relies on a dual-groove configuration where the primary flushing water seals are placed exactly 142mm from the striking end.
The COP 1238 introduces an extended, high-pressure flushing layout. The seal positions are pushed further down the shaft body to accommodate the heavy-duty multi-stage internal seal configurations meant to handle aggressive, highly-corrosive underground water scavenging pressures.
