General Introduction

A diamond core drilling hoist plug is a crucial lifting tool used to safely handle and lift drill rods, casings, and core barrels during drilling operations. It provides a secure connection between the hoisting system and the drill string, ensuring smooth and efficient movement when adding or removing drill rods.

During trip-in and trip-out operations of heavy drill strings, the hoist plug (lifting bail) is the single point of contact holding millions of dollars of equipment-and more importantly, the lives of your rig crew.

Gdrills Heavy-Duty Hoist Plugs are engineered with premium forged alloy steel and precision-machined threads to ensure safe, smooth, and high-efficiency hoisting operations under the most demanding deep-hole drilling conditions.

Technical Data

At Gdrills, safety is not an option; it is our manufacturing standard. Our hoist plugs are built to eliminate the risk of joint failure, stripping, or sudden drops:

Premium Forged Steel Construction: Manufactured from high-tensile, heat-treated 42CrMo (ASTM 4140) alloy steel. This guarantees exceptional impact resistance and high yield strength even in freezing, harsh mining environments.

100% Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Every single hoist plug undergoes rigorous Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT) and ultrasonic flaw detection to ensure zero micro-fractures or internal steel defects before leaving our factory.

Heavy-Duty Swivel Joint: Equipped with a precision-engineered heavy-duty bearing/swivel head that allows $360^\circ$ smooth rotation under full load. This prevents wire rope twisting, reduces torque build-up, and ensures a balanced vertical lift.

Specifiction

To comply with global mine safety regulations, Gdrills provides fully certified load ratings. Below is our engineering parameter table:

Step-by-Step Installation & Safe Operating Guide

Step 1: Pre-Hoist Inspection

Before attaching the hoist plug to the wire rope, visually inspect the threads for any debris, wear, or galling. Manually rotate the swivel head to ensure the internal bearings spin freely and smoothly without grinding. Apply a thin layer of high-pressure thread grease.

Step 2: Correct Thread Engagement

Lower the hoist plug onto the drill rod. Manually thread the plug into the rod box end first to prevent cross-threading. Use a pipe wrench to tighten the connection until the shoulder of the hoist plug is fully and firmly seated (double-butt flush) against the drill rod joint.

Step 3: Secure & Lift

Connect the hoisting wire line or derrick hook securely to the lifting bail. Begin the lift with slow, steady tension to allow the swivel to align itself with the load path naturally. Avoid sudden impact loading, jerking, or side-pulling beyond $15^\circ$ from the vertical axis.
